The integrity of the OHSAS 18000 series of Standards is one of the underlying reasons for the global acceptance of OHSAS 18001 as the basis for Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems. Inherent in the integrity of OHSAS 18001 is the governance and guidance of important institutions. These institutions provide the forum and structure for the continuing growth and improvement of the OHSAS 18000 series.

Occupational Health & Safety Administration (OSHA): A division of the U.S. Department of Labor, OSHA's mission is to ensure safe and healthful workplaces in America. Learn more about OSHA.

American National Standards Institute (ANSI): A private, nonprofit membership organization, ANSI is supported by a diverse constituency of private and public sector organizations. Founded in 1918 by five engineering societies and three government agencies, the Institute serves as administrator and coordinator of the United States private sector voluntary standardization system. Learn more about ANSI.

Registrars: Groups that inspect organizations for proper adherence to OHSAS who determine if the requirements for reistration have been met. Registrars will perform a registration audit prior to granting a company OHSAS 18001 registration, and will usually perform two surveillance audits each year to ensure that the certificate is effective.
